SBT Savannahs

The SBT title, or 'Stud Book Traditional' refers to status and not generation. It is achieved when a Savannah cat is at least the fourth generation bred down from the serval. At this stage the cat is no longer referred to as a "Foundation" Savannah cat, but as an SBT Savannah. This is considered to be the most desirable type of Savannah, as it is now truly a "pure-bred" domestic pedigreed Savannah. Some organizations do not recognize the Savannah breed until a cat has at least three generations of straight Savannah-to-Savannah matings in its pedigree. The SBT status is required in order for the cat to be fully recognized by The International Cat Association (TICA), the registering body for the Savannah cat. TICA considers the SBT Savannah eligible for competition in the show ring.

SBT Savannah cats are more consistent in both size and personality than higher generation Savannahs. Their size and temperament are fairly predictable and they make excellent pets for families with children and other pets.

Savannah cats are very affectionate and outgoing. They are intelligent and learn and adapt quickly. They love to be outdoors (although they must be kept on a leash or in a completely enclosed secure area) and are usually very fond of water. Savannahs are perfectly at home indoors as well. They love to follow you around from room to room. They love playing with cat toys and will usually play "fetch" just like a dog. They are also very curious and like to be a part of everything you do. Savannah cats are also very adaptable to other pets in the household and will often initiate "play" with your other pets. They also are very good with children that treat them properly.

Savannah cats should be fed high-quality cat food, either wet or dry, and receive the same vaccinations and care that regular cats require.
